"Tribute
to the Roughnecks" |

Building a Monument (a work in progress) |
First I proposed to the city a maquette of what I had in mind. . . |
Then I sculpted two more small maquettes with client input. |
The small clay maquettes were then digitally scanned and
enlarged in foam. Many changes were made in the foam (including starting the heads over) before I was happy enough with it to start laying on clay. |
The sculpts are now completed in clay. They are about 7 ft. high. Now they are off to the foundry for molding and casting.
The pour went beautifully! |
The piece is now being welded back together. The base has extensive structural engineering underneath per the city's code. This was like fitting together a very heavy puzzle! |
The final patina is on! It is still at the foundry awaiting
delivery to the site.
The next step will be to install it on site. |
So here we are on a dreary Sat morning with the townspeople around unveiling the "Tribute to the Roughnecks"
Thank you Signal Hill for allowing me to make you a monument!
